What is Reiki?

Reiki is a gentle, non-invasive Japanese energy healing technique for stress reduction and deep relaxation that promotes healing in body, mind and spirit. It's a wonderful way to reconnect with your body's innate wisdom and invite healing energy into your life. It is a safe, gentle, and non-invasive way to complement any other medical or therapeutic treatments you are receiving. 

It is important to note: Reiki is considered a complementary therapy, meaning it is used alongside conventional medical treatments. It is not a substitute for seeing a doctor.

The word Reiki comes from two Japanese words: "Rei" (Universal Wisdom) and "Ki" (Life Force Energy). It is based on the idea of a universal "life force energy" that flows through all of us. When this energy is low or blocked, you may feel out of balance, stressed or unwell.

During a session, a certified practitioner gently places their hands on or just above your fully-clothed body with focus on certain areas of the body often corresponding to the body's energy centers, or chakras. They act as a channel to guide this positive, balancing energy to you, supporting your body's natural ability to heal itself.

What does Reiki feel like?

You may experience the energy in the form of sensations like heat, tingling or pulsing where the Reiki practitioner has placed their hands. Sometimes, people feel sensations moving throughout the body, while other people do not perceive any change at all. Most people feel very relaxed and peaceful during a reiki treatment, and many fall asleep during the process.

Some people describe the release of stuck or stagnant energy which feels like the weight they were carrying was lifted. You may feel lighter and more peaceful following a session, The experience is usually a springboard to mental clarity and emotional ease.

In my Reiki sessions, I sometimes use crystals, drumming and other sound healing instruments such as chimes, and crystal singing bowls, depending on the individual.
